Title:  Hydrodynamics of condensed matter

Abstract:
Experimental discoveries of exotic materials over the past decades have provided striking insights into quantum physics at strong coupling. Absent a controlled perturbative expansion, hydrodynamics -- broadly understood -- offers a paradigm to organize collective excitations, dissipation and transport. I will show how several open problems in condensed matter physics can be addressed with this approach: (i) anomalous metals in thin film superconductors, (ii) the "normal" phase of high temperature superconductors, and (iii) fractional quantum Hall states and neighboring electron solids.
