I will discuss aspects of the duality between the two matrix models and 2D string theory at the self-dual radius. This duality doesn't require double scaling in the matrix integral, as opposed to the usual matrix duals of non-critical string theories. We show that some particular closed string worldsheets are in one-to-one correspondence with the Feynman diagrams of this matrix model, giving us a microscopic mechanism for holography. I will also discuss the non-perturbative aspects of this duality and how the matching at the non-perturbative level can be established. Again, we see a different mechanism compared to the usual eigenvalue instantons seen in the usual matrix duals of non-critical string theories. Towards the end, I will also talk about the worldsheet calculation of these non-perturbative effects and how string field theory plays a role in getting finite answers matching the matrix model predictions.
